Constructing and deconstructing life

Physical Biology Chemical Biology Artificial Biology Reconstituted Systems

Overview

The study of biological systems now offers the ambition of creating artificial forms of living systems.

The EnLife Major Programme, or Engineering Life, will focus on a detailed understanding of the mechanisms that characterise living systems. The team will then focus on the control and engineering of these systems.

The aim? To create new artificial biological systems whose properties can be chosen: whether synthetic cells, artificial tissues and organoids, or other forms inspired by living systems.
